The withdrawal of security operatives from the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, and other high-profile individuals in Lagos, was due to a lack of valid approval, rather than political motives.
This was revealed by police sources, who stated that the new Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, had sent a directive to withdraw all policemen operatives on VIP protection duties without due approval.
The police sources clarified that the normal procedure for VIPs to receive police protection is to write to the police officially, and upon approval, personnel are assigned to them.
However, in Meranda’s case, no such communication was sent to the police, leading to the withdrawal of her security details.
It was also revealed that several traditional rulers in the state had police personnel guarding them for almost 20 years without approval.
The police sources emphasized that the withdrawal was a routine exercise to ensure compliance with security protocols, and not linked to the political leadership tussle within the Lagos State House of Assembly.
