A Lagos State High Court has convicted Chandra Singh, an Indian national, of procurement fraud and sentenced him to 10 years in prison.
Singh was arraigned on a 19-count charge bordering on alleged retention of stolen property and bribery to the tune of N816,361,386.75.
The charges were preferred against him by the Lagos zonal directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Singh was found guilty on counts fourteen to eighteen and was ordered to make restitution of N345 million to his victim.
The trial judge, Justice I.O. Ijelu, delivered the judgment, which concluded a trial that began on November 24, 2022.
The prosecution counsel, Bilikisu Buhari, presented nine witnesses and several documentary evidence to prove the case against Singh.
The court’s decision marks a significant victory in the fight against corruption and procurement fraud in Nigeria.
