Somalia’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Dahir Shire Maxamed, has signed a cooperation agreement on energy and oil exploration with Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov.

Expressing his satisfaction, Minister Dahir Shire stated, “I am pleased to have signed a memorandum of understanding with Parviz Shahbazov, the Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan, to strengthen cooperation in the oil and gas sector.”

The agreement is seen as a major step in developing Somalia’s oil and gas industries by leveraging Azerbaijan’s expertise in the energy sector. It also aligns with Somalia’s broader efforts to enhance international partnerships and boost its economy.
In a related development, Somalia recently signed an oil exploration deal with Turkey, resulting in the deployment of a search vessel to explore potential reserves off the country’s coast.
The Turkish exploration vessel has completed its first phase of operations, with findings on Somalia’s offshore oil potential expected to be released soon.
