Forces allied with the Sudanese army have claimed a significant victory, intercepting a substantial quantity of military supplies destined for the rival Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in North Darfur.

The intercepted convoy, seized southeast of al-Fashir, contained 10,000 rounds of 40mm artillery shells, 12,000 rounds of howitzer shells, and various rockets and bombs.

The Joint Forces, comprising former rebel groups allied with the Sudanese army, accused the RSF of bringing in the supplies to indiscriminately shell neighborhoods in al-Fashir, Omdurman, and camps for displaced people.

The RSF has denied these allegations, calling the Joint Forces’ statement “incorrect and mere lies.”

This development comes amidst a power struggle between Sudan’s army and the RSF, which erupted into warfare in April 2023.

The conflict has triggered a massive displacement and hunger crisis, with the U.N. human rights chief warning of further escalation and a growing risk of deaths from starvation on a wide scale.
