The National Civil Society Council of Nigeria (NCSCN) has called on the Nigerian government to investigate the recent allegation of sexual harassment made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The council described the allegation as a “national embarrassment” that requires serious attention and investigation.
The Executive Director of the NCSCN, Blessing Akinlosotu, stated that the council has set up a team of investigative journalists to look into the matter and report back within a week. The council plans to address a world press conference on its final position and findings.
This is not the first time Akpabio has faced allegations of sexual harassment.
In a previous incident, Joy Nunieh, the former Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), accused Akpabio of sexually harassing her at his guest house in Abuja.
The NCSCN emphasized the need for a clean-up exercise in corporate governance in Nigeria, stating that the administration of President Tinubu should lead the way in addressing such incidents.
