As Ramadan begins, the Muslim community of Lagos State has called on faithful across the state to embrace unity, intensify prayers, and maximize the spiritual and charitable opportunities that come with the sacred month.
In a statement signed by its president, Muhammad Oyinlomo Danmole, and Public Relations Officer, Jubril Folami, the group extended warm greetings to Muslims in Lagos and beyond, urging them to make the most of the period for self-reflection, spiritual renewal, and acts of generosity.
Emphasizing the Blessings of Ramadan
The statement reminded Muslims that Ramadan is a time for heightened devotion and self-discipline, referencing the Qur’anic verse:
“O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous.” (Qur’an 2:183)
The community encouraged Muslims to dedicate themselves to extra prayers, Qur’an recitation, seeking forgiveness, and giving to the less privileged. “Let us not allow this month to pass without drawing closer to Allah and making positive changes in our lives,” the statement urged.
Prayers for Lagos State and Its Leadership
The group also called for special prayers for the peace, prosperity, and progress of Lagos State, asking Muslims to seek divine guidance for the state’s leaders. Citing Qur’an 2:186, which affirms Allah’s closeness to those who call upon Him, the community emphasized the power of supplication in ensuring stability and development.
Fostering Unity Among Muslims
Highlighting Ramadan’s unifying spirit, the statement urged Muslims to set aside differences and work together for the collective good of the Ummah. It referenced Qur’an 3:103, which commands believers to hold firmly to the rope of Allah and avoid division. The community encouraged collaboration among Muslim organizations, leaders, and individuals in da’wah, community development, and humanitarian efforts.
Call for Charity and Social Responsibility
Recognizing the struggles of the less privileged, the Lagos Muslim community appealed to well-meaning individuals and organizations to support the needy. Quoting Prophet Muhammad (SAW), the statement reminded Muslims that feeding a fasting person carries immense reward.
“We appeal to everyone to provide iftar meals and extend kindness to those around them. Ramadan is a precious gift, and we must embrace it with sincerity and devotion,” the statement added.
The community concluded by praying for the well-being of all Muslims, their families, and the state, asking Allah to accept their acts of worship and unite them upon goodness.
