Patrice Motsepe, the South African billionaire and Africa’s ninth richest person, has been re-elected as the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for another four-year term.
His re-election was confirmed at the CAF 14th extraordinary general assembly in Cairo, Egypt, where he was the only candidate running.
Motsepe’s first term as CAF president saw significant financial growth, including a 40% increase in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) prize money to $7 million.
He also oversaw the establishment of the African Football League (ASL) and increased prize money for the CAF men’s and women’s Champions Leagues.
As CAF president, Motsepe aims to make African football competitive on the international stage, stabilize finances, and invest in infrastructure to support African teams and players.
His re-election was widely expected, given his successful first term and lack of opposition.
