A powerful tropical cyclone named Jude has battered parts of southern Africa, particularly Malawi and Mozambique, leaving thousands of people homeless and without power.
Fortunately, no deaths have been reported.
According to officials, the cyclone made landfall in northern Mozambique on Sunday and moved over southern Malawi, causing heavy rains that affected 13 districts from Monday to Wednesday.
In Malawi, over 11,000 people have been affected, with more than 3,000 displaced and sheltered in evacuation camps.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported that relief operations in Mozambique were severely hampered due to inaccessible areas, washed-away roads, and bridges. In contrast, aid agencies and the government in Malawi were able to initiate relief operations in accessible areas.
Cyclone Jude is the third cyclone to hit Mozambique in the past three months, following Cyclones Chido and Dikeledi.
