Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has written to the Rivers State House of Assembly, proposing Wednesday, March 19, 2025, as the new date for the presentation of the 2025 state budget.
This comes after an earlier attempt to present the budget on March 12 wasA unsuccessful, as the governor was denied entry into the Assembly premises.
In a letter to the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, Governor Fubara recalled his earlier attempt, which was in compliance with a Supreme Court judgment.
He emphasized that despite prior notice, he and his entourage were locked out of the Assembly premises.
The governor urged all arms of government to exercise their duties within legal and constitutional frameworks for the good of the people.
He also appealed to the lawmakers to consider the interest of the people of Rivers State and embrace peace to resolve the political impasse.
Governor Fubara had previously been locked out of the Rivers State House of Assembly Quarters, with security personnel citing a lack of official communication between the governor and the Assembly.
However, the governor insisted that he had informed the lawmakers of his intention to present the budget.
The governor has reaffirmed his commitment to governance despite the political crisis in the state, and has called on all dissatisfied political actors to put aside their differences and commit to the full implementation of the Supreme Court’s decisions.
