Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s whereabouts are unknown after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state.
The declaration, made on Tuesday, was in response to attacks on oil installations and a threat by militant groups to blow up pipelines if the Rivers House of Assembly impeached Fubara.
Following the declaration, around 10 military trucks were deployed to the Government House in Port Harcourt, with armored vehicles stationed at strategic positions.
The roads leading to the Government House were deserted as residents rushed to return to their homes, fearing potential crossfire.
Although it’s unclear whether Fubara has vacated the Government House, sources suggest that he may have anticipated the state of emergency and held several meetings with members of the suspended state Executive council throughout the day.
President Tinubu’s declaration suspended Fubara and the lawmakers for six months, with an administrator appointed to oversee the state.
The move has sparked reactions, including criticism from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who accused Tinubu of assaulting democracy.
