The Niger Delta Congress (NDC) is organizing a peaceful protest on April 7, 2025, to oppose President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. The NDC has condemned the move, labeling it an attack on democracy and the people of Rivers State.
According to Mudiaga Ogboru, the National Spokesperson for the NDC, “These actions undermine the will of the people and threaten the stability of the Niger Delta region.”
The protest aims to demand the restoration of democratic governance in the state and will take place at Isaac Boro Park from 7 am.
This development comes after the NDC President was detained by the Nigeria Police Force over the group’s planned protest.
The police had initially invited Ogboru to discuss his criticism of the emergency rule and his call for the Niger Delta people to exercise their civil rights through protests.
