In a unanimous judgment, the Supreme Court has set aside the Court of Appeal’s decision recognizing Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP).
The apex court ruled that the Court of Appeal lacked jurisdiction to pronounce Abure as the National Chairman, as the issue of leadership is an internal affair of the party over which courts have no jurisdiction.
The Supreme Court allowed the appeal filed by Senator Nenadi Usman and another individual, deeming it meritorious.
In contrast, the court dismissed the cross-appeal filed by the Abure group of the Labour Party, citing a lack of merit.
This development is the latest in a series of legal battles over the leadership of the Labour Party. Previously, the Court of Appeal had reaffirmed Abure as the National Chairman, but the Supreme Court’s ruling has now overturned that decision.
