Oba Abimbola Owoade has been crowned the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, succeeding the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi who passed away on April 22, 2022.

The coronation ceremony took place at Olivet Baptist High School in Oyo, with Governor Seyi Makinde and other dignitaries in attendance.

The new Alaafin was presented with the staff of office and instrument of office on January 13, 2025, and ascends to the throne with the expectation of leading the Oyo kingdom into a new era.

The coronation ceremony was attended by notable Nigerians, including the Statistician General of the Federation, Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, and the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, who represented President Bola Tinubu.
