The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has prohibited Nigerian radio and television stations from playing Eedris Abdulkareem’s song “Tell Your Papa”, which criticizes President Bola Tinubu’s policies.

The song’s lyrics slam the president and urge his son, Seyi, to inform him that “people are dying” due to hardship and insecurity.

The NBC deemed the song’s content “inappropriate” and “objectionable”, violating the country’s broadcast code.

This move has sparked debate about artistic expression and dissent in Nigeria, where many are struggling with the rising cost of living and insecurity.

Abdulkareem’s song responds
to Seyi Tinubu’s recent remarks praising his father as “the greatest president in Nigeria’s history”, countering with raw and emotive lyrics describing the nation’s challenges.
