A shooting incident occurred on the night of April 9, 2025, near the Gombe Correctional Centre, resulting in the injury of one individual.
Intelligence sources said that at about 11:45 p.m., a group of hoodlums attempted to pass through a barricade manned by the Correctional Arms Squad.
When the guards stopped them, the suspects refused to comply and instead began throwing stones at the officers. In response, one of the officers fired, hitting 30-year-old Adamu Ahmed Bello of Jankai Quarters, Gombe, in the shoulder.
Bello was immediately rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe for medical treatment.
Security personnel were swiftly deployed to the scene to put the situation under control.
Police sources said that an investigation was currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
