The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has strongly denied social media reports alleging that it was indebted to former Super Eagles captain and coach Christian Chukwu, who passed away on Saturday.

One viral post claimed that the NFF owed Chukwu, fondly known as “Chairman,” a sum of $128,000. In response, NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, dismissed the claim as unfounded and lacking any official record.
“There is no evidence in the NFF’s files of any outstanding payments owed to Christian Chukwu,” Sanusi stated. “During Mr. Amaju Pinnick’s first term as NFF President, a dedicated committee was set up to review claims by coaches owed by the federation, including debts from past administrations. Their mandate was clear — verify and pay off genuine debts.”

Sanusi explained that Chukwu was employed by the NFF from 2002 to 2005 before being dismissed following Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Angola in a FIFA World Cup qualifier held in Kano.
“To be clear, there is no documentation indicating that the NFF owes him,” he emphasized.
The NFF scribe further urged anyone in possession of credible and verifiable documents proving debt owed to Chukwu or any coach from the past 20 years to come forward.
“As a responsible and transparent organization, we are committed to settling any genuine debts once verified,” he concluded.
