Algeria and Türkiye have expressed a desire to enhance collaboration on regional issues and develop joint policies, according to Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who spoke on Monday following a visit to Algeria.
During his visit, Fidan met with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, where they discussed a variety of regional topics, including Israel’s actions in Gaza. Fidan emphasized that humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza and the establishment of a cease-fire were priorities for both countries. He reiterated Türkiye’s strong support for the Palestinian people, thanking Algeria for its steadfast defense of the Palestinian cause.

Fidan also revealed that President Tebboune is expected to visit Türkiye later this year for the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Meeting. He praised Algeria’s economic progress under Tebboune’s leadership and highlighted its important role in regional stability, particularly as a non-permanent member of the U.N. Security Council (UNSC).
Fidan noted that relations between Türkiye and Algeria have been strengthened under the leadership of Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Tebboune, with mutual trust being the cornerstone of their partnership. He emphasized Türkiye’s reliability as a friend and partner to Algeria.
In addition to political and humanitarian discussions, Fidan and Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf held a Joint Planning Group Meeting, which included representatives from various sectors. They explored steps to enhance cooperation in areas such as trade, transportation, migration, and healthcare.
Fidan expressed confidence that trade between the two nations could reach $10 billion in the near future, supported by over 1,000 Turkish companies operating in Algeria. He also highlighted the importance of energy security and defense cooperation, areas in which both countries have significant potential for joint projects. The recent opening of Türkiye’s Consulate General in Oran was also mentioned as a key step in strengthening bilateral relations.
Regarding regional issues, Fidan emphasized Türkiye’s commitment to being a voice for Palestinians on the global stage and called for sincere dialogue to address the conflicts in Libya and the Sahel region. He expressed his belief that his visit would further deepen Türkiye-Algeria relations and contribute to lasting peace and stability in the region.
