Renowned former Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sam Omara, has died at the age of 65 after battling serious health complications, including prostate cancer and kidney failure. He had been undergoing dialysis treatment at Mulago National Referral Hospital.

Omara served the Uganda Police Force in several key roles, notably as the Kampala North Police Operations Commander. He gained national attention during the 2011 “walk-to-work” protests led by opposition figure Dr. Kizza Besigye, where his policing methods drew both praise and criticism for being heavy-handed.
Following his retirement from public service, Omara transitioned to the private security sector, becoming Deputy CEO of Arrow Security Services, a company owned by Capt. Mike Mukula. Reports indicate that Capt. Mukula sought President Museveni’s support to assist with Omara’s medical expenses, alongside a pledge by the Uganda Police Force to contribute towards his treatment costs.

Omara is remembered for his years of service in law enforcement and his continued work in private security. His passing marks the end of a career that left a lasting impact on Uganda’s security landscape.
