The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), until Friday for cross-examination of the Federal Government’s witness.
The witness, a Department of State Service (DSS) operative, testified behind a protective shield and tendered documentary evidence against Kanu, including a video recording of his interrogation and statement made on October 15, 2015.
In the statement, Kanu admitted establishing Radio Biafra in London and fighting for the emancipation of the people of South East, South South, and parts of Benue and Kogi. He claimed freedom fighting is not a crime and that he was not involved in any violence.
The court admitted and marked several exhibits, including Biafra Radio equipment recovered from Kanu’s hotel room in 2015.
Kanu’s lawyer, Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, did not object to tendering the exhibits. The trial will continue on Friday with cross-examination of the prosecution’s witness.
