Nigeria: Former Military Governor Maj. Gen. Omu Dies at 84

Maj. Gen. Paul Ufuoma Omu, former military governor of Cross River and Akwa Ibom States, has passed away at the age of 84.

His family announced his death in a statement signed by Oghenekome Ufuoma Omu.

Gen. Omu had a distinguished military career, serving as Military Governor from July 1975 to July 1978 and later holding key positions, including Chairman of the Constitutional Conference Commission in 1994.

He also served as Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and President of the Isoko Development Union (IDU), championing unity, education, and economic advancement.

The family will announce burial arrangements later.
