The Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria (SCSN) has announced Sheikh Dr. Bashir Aliyu Umar as its new president, following the passing of former president Sheikh Abdul Rasheed Hadiyatullah.
The appointment was made in accordance with the council’s constitution and procedures.
Sheikh Umar, a well-respected figure in Nigeria’s Islamic academic and financial circles, holds a Ph.D. in Hadith and Islamic Studies from the Islamic University of Madinah.
He has contributed to numerous committees related to Shari’ah and Islamic banking, including the Shari’ah Advisory Committee of Stanbic IBTC Bank and the Council of Experts on Islamic Banking of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The SCSN expressed full confidence in Sheikh Umar’s leadership, scholarship, and commitment to upholding Islamic principles across Nigeria.
The council seeks the continuous prayers and support of the Muslim community as it continues its mission.
