Taiwan has strongly condemned Somalia for banning travelers with Taiwanese passports from entering or transiting through the country.
The ban, effective April 30, follows a directive from Somali aviation authorities.
The move comes as Taiwan boosts ties with Somaliland, a breakaway region from Somalia.
Taiwan’s foreign ministry has protested the ban, citing restrictions on travel freedom and safety for Taiwanese nationals.
China, which claims Taiwan as its territory, has supported the ban, calling it a “legitimate measure” reflecting Somalia’s adherence to the one-China principle. Taiwan has demanded Somalia revoke the notice.
