The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) announced on Friday that Muhoroni Youth has been relegated after FIFA found the second-tier Kenyan club guilty of match-fixing.

In its ruling, FIFA declared that Muhoroni Youth was involved in match manipulation and ordered the club’s senior team to be expelled from the FKF National Super League, demoting them to the third-tier Division One League for the upcoming season.

The FKF expressed full support for FIFA’s decision, reiterating its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against match-fixing and any activities that undermine the integrity of the sport.

This decision comes after the suspension of former national team goalkeeper Patrick Matasi in March, following allegations that he helped rig a 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Cameroon. Kenya lost 4-1 in that match, diminishing their chances of qualifying for the finals in Morocco.
FIFA had previously banned four Kenyan players in 2020 over an “international conspiracy” to fix league matches, with one player receiving a lifetime ban. In the same scandal, five Kenyan referees were also suspended.
The Kenya Institute of Public Policy Research and Analysis has raised concerns about the widespread issue of match-fixing in Kenyan football, which is reportedly affecting everything from grassroots competitions to the professional leagues.
