Kano Pillars forward, Ahmed Musa, is poised to make a return to the national team as he prepares to lead the Super Eagles at the upcoming Unity Cup exhibition tournament, scheduled to take place from May 26 to 31, 2025, in the United Kingdom.
The announcement was made on Monday via Kano Pillars’ official X account, which confirmed Musa’s participation in the four-nation event.
“Captain Ahmed Musa is set to lead the Super Eagles at the Unity Cup Four-Nation Tourney from May 26-31, 2025, at Brentford Stadium, London,” the club stated.
The 31-year-old veteran has been in impressive form in the ongoing 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, scoring eight goals and providing two assists for Pillars, also known as Sai Masu Gida.
Musa last featured for Nigeria in a friendly against Guinea on January 8, 2024, ahead of the AFCON 2023 tournament. Although he was included in the squad for the continental competition in Ivory Coast, he did not play in any match during Nigeria’s run to a silver medal finish.
With several foreign-based stars expected to be unavailable due to club commitments in Europe, Musa’s experience and leadership will be vital as the Super Eagles turn to a squad likely to feature predominantly home-based players.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has yet to release the official squad list for the tournament, but sources suggest it will largely consist of NPFL players.
Nigeria will compete in the Unity Cup alongside Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago at the G-tech Community Stadium—home of English Premier League side Brentford FC.
The Super Eagles will open their campaign against Ghana on Wednesday, May 28, following the tournament opener between Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday, May 27.
