The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has released the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination results, but withheld nearly 40,000 due to various examination infractions.
A total of 2,030,862 candidates registered for the exam conducted across 882 Computer-Based Test centers nationwide.
Out of these, 1,957,000 candidates were verified to have sat the examination, while 71,705 were absent.
The Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed that 39,834 results are being withheld pending further investigation, including 1,426 cases under active investigation and 96 results withheld for malpractice. This year’s figure represents a decrease from 123 withheld results in the previous year.
Oloyede also revealed that 80 suspects are currently being interrogated by the police for their involvement in examination malpractices, with most expected to face prosecution.
Some of the examination malpractices identified include identity fraud, biometric fraud, impersonation during registration, double registration, and attempted substitution of candidates.
Specifically, 244 candidates were caught engaging in “WhatsApp runs,” subscribing to rogue groups that promised leaked questions, while 3,656 candidates had their results withheld due to extraneous fingerprints.
In addition, four CBT centers were delisted and blacklisted due to technical deficiencies and substandard performance.
These centers include Adventure Associate in Kano, Sadat Rimi College of Education in Zaria, Soronara Ventures Nigeria Limited in Imo State, and HSS Amazing in Ogun State.
The board also granted an exception to “exceptionally gifted” students under the age of 16, with 41,027 underage candidates registering for the exam.
Only 467 met the high-performance criteria, with one disqualified due to examination malpractice.
