President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has requested the National Assembly’s approval for the N1.48 trillion 2025 Rivers State budget.
The budget proposal prioritizes investment in critical sectors such as infrastructure, health, education and agriculture, with projected job creation of 6,000.
This request comes after President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18 to address escalating political crisis and security challenges, suspending the governor, deputy governor and members of the House of Assembly for six months.
The National Assembly will review the budget proposal, with the Senate referring it to the ad-hoc committee on emergency rule in Rivers State.
Key allocations in the budget include:
- N324 billion for infrastructure development
- N166 billion for the health sector, including N5 billion for free malaria treatment and other common ailments
- N75.6 billion for education
- N31.4 billion for agriculture
The budget proposal is the first since Ibok-Ete Ibas, a retired vice admiral, assumed office as sole administrator of the state.
