The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has apologized for the delay that forced candidates to write the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) at night, citing logistics challenges.
According to WAEC’s Head of Nigeria National Office, Amos Dangut, the examination body received information that the paper was about to be compromised, prompting them to take immediate action to prevent leakage.
However, logistical issues, including a vehicle breakdown while transporting exam materials to Taraba State, caused delays, resulting in the night-time exam.
Dangut explained that despite their best efforts to prevent the leakage, the logistics issues hindered the timely conduct of the examination. “We had serious logistical problems – the vehicle that was conveying the exam materials to Taraba broke down in the middle of the night, and efforts to ensure that materials were recovered and sent to the place could not be achieved in time,” he said.
The incident sparked concerns among parents and students, with many taking to social media to express their frustration and worry about the safety and fairness of the examination process.
WAEC’s apology and assurance that steps have been taken to prevent such incidents in the future aim to address these concerns.
