Dozens of activists have staged a protest outside a mortuary in Nairobi, Kenya, following the death of 26-year-old Albert Omondi Ojwang in police custody.
Ojwang, a teacher and blogger, was arrested over a social media post allegedly critical of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Eliud Lagat.
The police initially stated that Ojwang sustained head injuries after hitting his head against a cell wall, but the family’s lawyer claims the body bore signs of severe physical trauma.
The Independent Policing Oversight Authority has launched an investigation, and senior officers at the Central Police Station have been interdicted pending the outcome.
