The Take-It-Back Movement, organisers of the June 12 Democracy Day protest, has written to the Lagos State Police Command, requesting protection for protesters and warning against harassment.
In an open letter to the Lagos Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, the TIB Coordinator in Lagos, Adekunle Taofeek, stated that the letter served as formal notification of the protest.
The organisers noted that June 12 is a reminder that Nigerians fought for freedom and will continue to fight peacefully for better governance.
They cited sections 39 and 40 of the 1999 Constitution, which guarantee freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, and demanded that the police protect protesters rather than suppressing or harassing them.
The protest aims to highlight ongoing challenges and advocate for better governance, marking 26 years of democratic rule in Nigeria since the transition from military rule in 1999.
