A summit of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State ended in chaos when some members protested the endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term without mentioning Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The APC North-East Vice Chairman, Mustapha Salihu, sparked the controversy by naming Tinubu as the sole candidate for the next election, prompting some members to insist that Shettima be included in the endorsement.

Security operatives intervened to restore order after the situation escalated, but the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, later addressed the crowd, praising both Tinubu and Shettima, which helped ease the tension.

The endorsement comes after 22 APC governors unanimously adopted Tinubu as the party’s candidate for the 2027 election, without mentioning Shettima.

However, Borno South Senator Ali Ndume has distanced himself from the endorsement, citing the example of former President Goodluck Jonathan, who secured the endorsement of 22 governors but lost his re-election bid in 2015.
