The Abia State government has confirmed a deadly attack by armed herdsmen in the Umunneochi local government area, resulting in several fatalities.
State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, disclosed this while addressing journalists at the Government House in Umuahia, stating that security agencies have been put on full alert to address the security issue.
This incident is similar to recent attacks experienced in neighboring Enugu State, where suspected Fulani herdsmen have been wreaking havoc on communities, including a recent attack in Agu-Amed Autonomous community that killed at least seven residents and left two others missing.
The Abia State government has vowed to take decisive action to address security breaches and prevent further incidents, amid ongoing tensions between farmers and herders in the region.
