The leadership of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) is deeply saddened by the recent wave of violence and tragic loss of life in parts of Benue State.
The ongoing crisis, marked by brutal killings and widespread destruction of property, has plunged countless innocent citizens into mourning.
In a Press Release issued and signed by Engr. Mustapha Tajudeen Olumide
38th National Amir of the MSSN and Mallam Moshood Abiola Olatunbi,
38th National PRO, MSSN, these atrocities demand urgent and compassionate intervention.
The Press Release reads; “As we witness the senseless loss of life, we must ask: how long will we remain silent in the face of such barbarity? It is disheartening that these horrific acts continue with insufficient preventive measures from our security agencies.
“We must not allow the sanctity of human life to be eroded. The Qur’an unequivocally states, “And do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden, except by right…” (Qur’an 17:33). This verse underscores the sacredness of life—a value currently being trampled.
“Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasized compassion and the value of all human life, saying, “The merciful are shown mercy by the Merciful. Be merciful on the earth, and you will be shown mercy from above.” These teachings remind us that every life lost is a tragedy that affects the entire nation. We must denounce these acts that not only extinguish lives but also shred the very fabric of our communities.
“While we recognize the efforts of our security forces, we must express our deep frustration with their largely reactive posture. Response times must improve, and proactive, intelligence-driven strategies must be adopted to prevent such tragedies before they occur. Our people deserve protection that is swift, strategic, and sincere.
“We call on government officials, community leaders, religious bodies, and civil society organizations to come together in unity and purpose. It is our shared duty to promote dialogue, mutual understanding, and coexistence among Nigeria’s diverse groups. We must reject divisive narratives and stand united in the pursuit of peace and national harmony.”
The MSSN extended condolences to the families of the victims and offer prayers for the swift recovery of the injured.
It said: “Our thoughts are with the people of Benue State as they endure this immense pain. This is not just a regional crisis—it is a national emergency that must galvanize us all.
As we mourn, let us reflect on our shared humanity and renew our commitment to the principles of peace, justice, and compassion. We urge all Nigerians to raise their voices against violence and advocate for a country where every life is valued and protected.
May Allah, the Most Merciful, grant peace and solace to the bereaved, guide our leaders toward justice, and unite us all in the pursuit of a safe and dignified Nigeria.”
