The UK government has denied South African politician Julius Malema entry into the country, deeming his presence “non-conducive to the public good”.
Malema, leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party, was set to speak at Cambridge University, but his visa application was rejected due to his vocal support for Hamas and inflammatory remarks about racial violence.
The UK Home Office cited Malema’s statements in support of arming Hamas and his refusal to assure the South African Equality Court that he wouldn’t encourage violence against white South Africans.
The EFF party condemned the decision as “cowardice” and an attempt to stifle democratic debate.
This marks the second time Malema has been denied entry to the UK, with the UK government stating he has no right of appeal and may be denied future applications.
