Senator Neda Imaseun, representing Edo South Senatorial District, has officially defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defection was announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Wednesday’s plenary. Imaseun’s decision to leave the LP stems from internal party crises, which he believes hinder the party’s effectiveness.
This move is seen as strategic, aimed at aligning Edo South with the federal development agenda under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope vision.
As chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, Imaseun has successfully resolved over 20 public petitions, impacting the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
His legislative achievements also include initiatives in vocational training, agricultural development, maternal health support, and student scholarships.
Notably, his agricultural programs have boosted productivity in rubber, cocoa, and cashew farming across Edo South.
Imaseun’s defection is expected to strengthen the APC’s position in Edo South, further solidifying the party’s presence in the region.
The senator’s decision has been met with interest, given his influential role in Nigerian politics.
