South African singer Tyla has won the Best African Music Performance award at the 2026 Grammy Awards, defeating Nigerian stars Burna Boy, Davido and Ayra Starr in the highly competitive category.

The 24-year-old clinched the prize with her hit song Push 2 Start, beating Burna Boy’s Love, Davido’s With You featuring Omah Lay, Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s Gimme Dat, as well as Hope & Love by Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin.
The Best African Music Performance category, introduced to spotlight African music on the global stage, once again featured strong Nigerian representation, with Burna Boy, Davido and Ayra Starr all making the final shortlist.

With the latest win, Tyla becomes a two-time winner of the category since its introduction in 2024. She claimed the inaugural award with her global breakout single Water, making her the first artiste to achieve back-to-back victories in the category.
The win further cements Tyla’s growing influence on the global music scene and highlights the continued rise of African music at the Grammys.
