Super Eagles goalkeeper and Udinese shot-stopper, Maduka Okoye, has been appointed Sports Ambassador of Enugu State by Governor Peter Mbah, in recognition of his footballing achievements and commitment to youth development.

Governor Mbah made the announcement on Wednesday during Okoye’s courtesy visit to the Government House in Enugu. The 24-year-old, who hails from Enugu, is expected to champion sports development in the state, inspire young athletes, and promote Enugu’s sporting excellence both nationally and globally.

“Today, I had the pleasure of receiving Super Eagles and Udinese star goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, at the Lion Building,” Governor Mbah said in a statement shared via his official Facebook page.

“A true son of Enugu, Maduka is not just making us proud on the national and global stage — he is also poised to give back. He shared his plans to launch a charitable foundation and establish a football academy in Enugu, aimed at nurturing future stars and touching lives.”

In support of this initiative, Governor Mbah announced that the state government would allocate land for the proposed football academy and invited Okoye to participate in the next Enugu International Marathon, which will feature elite runners from across the world.
“In recognition of his achievements and commitment, I’m proud to appoint him as an Ambassador of Enugu State,” the governor stated. “He will serve as a role model to our children, especially those in our Smart Green Schools, and inspire a new generation of dreamers and achievers.”

The governor reaffirmed that Enugu State remains committed to youth empowerment through sports, with Maduka Okoye’s new role positioned as a major step in realizing that vision.
