An oil tanker carrying approximately 1 million barrels of crude oil suffered an explosion in its engine room off the coast of Libya on June 27, but fortunately, no injuries or pollution have been reported.
The Marshall Islands-flagged vessel, Vilamoura, was en route from Libya’s Zuetina port to Gibraltar when the incident occurred and is currently being towed to Greece, where it is expected to arrive by July 2.
The operator, TMS Tankers, confirmed the situation, assuring that the vessel’s safety and environmental impact are being closely monitored.
