Former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Senator Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, has called for the cancellation of the ongoing local government elections in the state, alleging widespread irregularities and voter disenfranchisement.

In an interview with Nigeria Info on Saturday, Bucknor-Akerele expressed frustration over her inability to vote at her designated polling unit, claiming her name was missing from the register.

“I have been to my own unit, my name is not there,” she lamented, adding that several polling units had been relocated without prior notice. “There are units supposed to be in front of Eko Hotel, they have brought them here to Ajose Adeogun,” she added.

The former deputy governor accused the electoral authorities of deliberately manipulating the process, describing the relocation of polling units and omission of names as part of a coordinated plan to rig the election.

“There is a clear effort to rig the election in favour of one party. Many people are not able to vote because they have completely disrupted all the polling units,” she said.

Bucknor-Akerele urged the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to cancel the election, citing logistical failures and disenfranchisement of eligible voters as justification.

Her comments come amid reports of late arrival or absence of LASIEC officials in parts of Lagos, further fuelling concerns about the credibility of the poll.
