The Katsina State Government has declared Monday, July 14, 2025, a work-free day in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in London on Sunday.

The announcement was made in a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Garba Faskari, on Sunday evening.

According to the statement, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda declared the public holiday to allow residents and workers across the state to mourn the late statesman and offer prayers for his peaceful repose.

“The Governor of Katsina State, His Excellency, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, has declared Monday, 14th July 2025, as a work-free day in the State. This follows the demise of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR,” the statement read.
Governor Radda extended his condolences to Buhari’s family, the people of Katsina, and Nigerians at large, describing the late president as “a great leader, a hero, a true democrat and a patriotic elder statesman whose life was dedicated to the service of Nigeria.”
He prayed for Allah to grant the late president eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.

Further details about the burial arrangements are expected to be announced soon. President Buhari, who hailed from Daura in Katsina State, died at the age of 83 after a prolonged illness.
