A Kano-based TikToker, Abubakar Ibrahim, and a musician, Hamisu Sa’id Yusuf, also known as “Hamisu Breaker,” have been sentenced to five months imprisonment or a fine of ₦200,000 each for abusing the Nigerian currency, naira.
The duo was convicted by Justice S.M. Shuaibu of the Federal High Court in Kano after pleading guilty to charges of spraying and trampling on naira notes.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned them on separate one-count charges bordering on naira abuse, contrary to Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, 2007.
Abubakar Ibrahim was found guilty of spraying and trampling on ₦14,000 in ₦1,000 notes, while Hamisu Sa’id Yusuf was convicted for spraying ₦30,000 in ₦200 notes during a social event.
