Tragedy struck Banga village in Zamfara State’s Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, where bandits have brutally killed 38 kidnapped villagers despite receiving over ₦50 million in ransom.
According to the local government chairman, Mannir Haidara Kaura, 56 people were initially abducted, with 18 later released and hospitalized for medical treatment.
The bandits had demanded ₦1 million per hostage, which the community managed to pay after several weeks.
However, instead of releasing all the captives, the bandits slaughtered the remaining 35 abductees during their captivity, as recounted by the freed victims.
The incident has sparked an appeal to the federal and state governments to extend military operations to the area to restore peace and rescue those still held by the criminals.
In a related development, joint security forces have neutralized 45 bandits in Niger State’s Shiroro Local Government Area, with two hybrid force members killed and four injured in the operation.
