The bandits had demanded ₦1 million per hostage, which the community managed to pay after several weeks.

However, instead of releasing all the captives, the bandits slaughtered the remaining 35 abductees during their captivity, as recounted by the freed victims.

The incident has sparked an appeal to the federal and state governments to extend military operations to the area to restore peace and rescue those still held by the criminals.

In a related development, joint security forces have neutralized 45 bandits in Niger State’s Shiroro Local Government Area, with two hybrid force members killed and four injured in the operation.

Key Details:

  • Number of Abductees: 56 people initially abducted, 18 released, and 38 killed
  • Ransom: Over ₦50 million paid to the bandits
  • Location: Banga village, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Zamfara State
  • Government Response: Appeal for military operations to restore peace and rescue captives.
