The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, has reiterated its commitment to boosting food security in Nigeria through strategic partnerships with development agencies.
Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, made this known during a courtesy visit by the newly appointed Country Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) to Nigeria, Dr. Gudain Hussein.
Utsev emphasized President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s strong commitment to enhancing food production, citing the declaration of a state of emergency on food security and efforts to attract investment in agriculture and the food value chain.
The ministry has expressed readiness to collaborate with FAO in advancing food production, particularly through the Department of Irrigation and Drainage.
The FAO Country Representative highlighted the upcoming Hand-in-Hand Initiative for the Sahel, themed ‘Investment in Irrigation and Water Resources,’ scheduled for September 16-18, 2025, in Abuja.
The initiative aims to unite investors and stakeholders to accelerate food security efforts nationwide.
