A Rwandan man accused of participating in the 1994 genocide has been extradited from Norway to Rwanda.
François Gasana, who was arrested in Norway in 2022 for crimes allegedly committed during the genocide, arrived in Kigali on Friday morning.
Gasana is accused of killing a child and inciting others to participate in the killings during the genocide, in which over 1 million Tutsis and moderate Hutus were systematically massacred by Hutu extremists.
The Norwegian police had announced in March that Gasana would be sent back to Rwanda after a court ruled that extradition conditions had been met.
Upon arrival, Gasana was taken into custody, and Rwanda’s prosecutor’s office confirmed that he will face charges related to genocide crimes.
