The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has imposed a lifetime no-fly ban on Comfort Emmanson, a passenger who allegedly assaulted Ibom Air officials on a flight from Uyo to Lagos.
The incident occurred on August 10, 2025, when Emmanson refused to comply with safety instructions to switch off her mobile phone before takeoff, sparking a verbal tirade and physical altercation with crew members.
According to reports, Emmanson violently assaulted the crew, attempted to use a fire extinguisher as a weapon, and even attacked security personnel upon arrival in Lagos.
AON’s spokesperson, Professor Obiora Okonkwo, stated that the decision to ban Emmanson was made due to the severity of her actions, which posed a significant threat to the safety of crew, passengers, and the aircraft.
The incident has raised concerns about aviation security, prompting AON to call for a review and tightening of security procedures at airports nationwide.
