Security operatives in Kaduna State have apprehended a suspected vote buyer with a total cash of ₦25,963,000, believed to be earmarked for inducing voters to compromise the electoral process.
The suspect, identified as Shehu Aliyu Patangi, was arrested around 3:30 am on Saturday at a popular hotel along Turunku Road in Kaduna metropolis, where he was coordinating the distribution of funds for vote buying to influence voters in the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency bye-election.
According to the Kaduna State Police Command, the suspect confessed to the crime during preliminary interrogation and pleaded for leniency.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, warned that anyone found attempting to undermine the electoral process will face the full wrath of the law, assuring residents of adequate security before, during, and after the elections.
The police command urged citizens to exercise their franchise peacefully and lawfully without fear or intimidation, emphasizing their commitment to providing maximum security during the bye-elections.
This development highlights the ongoing efforts to prevent vote buying and ensure the integrity of the electoral process in Kaduna State.
