The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a 50-year-old widow, Ifeoma Henrietta Ezewuike, for attempting to traffic 1.3 kilograms of cocaine using a fake pregnancy disguise.
Ezewuike, a fashion designer and proprietress of Golden Star Creation in Okota, Lagos, was apprehended at a bus terminal in Jibowu, Yaba, while en route to deliver the drugs to customers in Abuja.
During a follow-up search of her residence, NDLEA operatives recovered 200 grams of a cutting agent used in cocaine processing.
Ezewuike claimed she inherited the illicit trade from her late husband, who died two years ago, despite running a fashion business for over 20 years.
In related operations, the NDLEA intercepted 90 parcels of “Loud,” a potent strain of cannabis weighing 48.6 kilograms, imported from the US and concealed in three cartons of kitchen sinks at a Lagos courier company.
The agency also reported massive drug busts and destruction exercises across several states, including the destruction of 7,500kg of skunk on three hectares of farmland in Taraba and 25,500kg of skunk on four plantations in Delta State.
Multiple suspects were arrested, and significant quantities of opioids were seized, highlighting the agency’s continued efforts to combat drug trafficking.
