The Peoples Democratic Party is holding a make-or-break National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja to affirm its November 2025 national convention and ratify the report of the zoning committee headed by Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Duoye Diri.
The meeting aims to decide on the zoning formula, which will determine the power-sharing arrangement between the North and South, as well as among the six geopolitical zones.
The zoning committee’s report is expected to define the presidential candidate’s zone of origin and micro-zone key positions among states.
Despite internal divisions, party leaders hope the adoption of the zoning report will steady the PDP ahead of its convention.
The party’s National Working Committee, National Caucus, and Board of Trustees held separate meetings to harmonize the agenda for the NEC session.
Seven governors elected on the PDP platform in Zamfara State have vowed to resist any attempt to scuttle the national convention.
However, some southern PDP leaders have dissociated themselves from a meeting held in Lagos, while others have expressed support for the zoning formula.
