Former Senator Kabiru Marafa has confirmed his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing injustice, neglect, and worsening insecurity in Zamfara State.
Marafa, who served as the Zamfara State Coordinator for the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council in 2023, made the announcement via a text message to Channels Television.
According to a communiqué issued by his political structure, the decision to resign was made after a two-day meeting where leaders unanimously resolved to dump the APC due to the party’s alleged marginalization of Zamfara State.
Despite the state’s significant contribution to APC’s 2023 presidential victory, Zamfara received only one ministerial slot, whereas other North-West states secured multiple slots.
The group also expressed grave concern over the deteriorating security situation in Zamfara, which has been plagued by banditry attacks and kidnappings.
They accused the Federal Government of politicizing insecurity during the recent Kaura Namoda bye-election, alleging that security forces were deployed to secure APC’s electoral victory rather than protect lives.
Marafa’s resignation is seen as a significant blow to the APC in Zamfara State, and his next political move is eagerly awaited.
The Senator Kabiru Marafa Consultative Forum has announced that it will soon declare its new political direction, guided by the collective interest of the people of Zamfara State
