Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala has completed a move to Saudi Women’s Premier League side Al Hilal, signing a two-year contract after leaving American club Bay FC.
The six-time Africa Women’s Player of the Year was officially unveiled on Tuesday in Riyadh, a day after passing her medicals. “Welcome Asisat Oshoala. Countless achievements, and more to come,” Al Hilal announced in a statement on their social media platforms.
Oshoala joins her Nigerian teammates Ashleigh Plumptre and Francisca Ordega in Saudi Arabia, where Al Hilal will be looking to improve on their sixth-place finish from last season.
Her former club, Bay FC, also confirmed the transfer in an emotional farewell post:
“Bay FC and Saudi Arabia club Al Hilal have agreed to terms on a transfer for Asisat Oshoala. Thank you for everything you’ve given to this club.”
The 30-year-old striker spent just over a year at Bay FC after joining them during the National Women’s Soccer League expansion. She made 25 appearances, scoring seven goals and providing one assist in her debut campaign. However, her influence waned this season, starting only five of 12 matches without finding the back of the net.
Before her stint in the U.S., Oshoala enjoyed a trophy-laden five years at Barcelona, where she scored 107 goals in 149 matches, winning five league titles and two Women’s Champions League crowns. Her club career has also seen her play for Arsenal, Liverpool, and Dalian Quanjian in China, following her early years at FC Robo and Rivers Angels in Nigeria.
At international level, Oshoala remains a key figure for the Super Falcons, having helped Nigeria win the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations a record 10th time in Morocco, where she featured in two games.
