President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate implementation of mandatory health insurance across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in Nigeria, in line with the National Health Insurance Act, 2022.
The directive requires all MDAs to enroll their employees in the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) health insurance plan, with the option to take up supplementary private insurance coverage.
Entities bidding for government contracts must present valid NHIA Health Insurance Certificates, and applicants seeking licenses or permits must also meet this requirement.
To ensure compliance, the NHIA will launch a digital platform for real-time verification of health insurance certificates.
The presidential directive aims to expand health coverage, safeguard workers, and promote accountability in public and private sector engagements.
President Tinubu emphasized the need for continued engagement with the private sector to ensure businesses are not unduly burdened by the regulations.
